KARACHI: An anti-terrorism court has handed two extortionists 19 years sentence each over demanding extortion amount from a businessman.
This is one of its type of sentence, which has been given to extortionists, the most emerging group of criminals following kidnapping for ransom.
The ATC judge declared two extortionists guilty of demanding money, Rs. 2 million, from the owner of a mobile phone company in Karachi.
The Karachiites, from trade and business circles to professionals, have been paying millions of rupees daily to the extortion mafias active in the port city.
The decision came in a time when Federal government had allowed surgical operation in Karachi, to contain the violent crimes in the city.
