ISLAMABAD: Director General Rangers Major General Rizwan Akhtar claims to clear Karachi within three days if his force given freehand for the operation.
“If I have been given freehand, authority of arresting criminals and no political interference is made in the affairs, then I would clear Karachi from the terrorists within three days,” Dunya newspaper quoted him as saying.
The claim was made at a briefing to the Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, who spent two busy days in the port city to overview the law and order situation.
According to the sources, Rangers have compiled a list of 4,000 terrorists who they claim need to be taken to the task.
The DG rangers’s claim helped Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to reach the conclusion of giving leading role to Rangers in the Karachi operation.
In the past, many terrorists managed to get relaxation from the local courts after their accomplices threatened judges to free them.
“In all this scenario, if something really wishes to be done, Rangers should be given full authority,” the sources quoted DG Rangers as saying.
The statistics reveal that hundreds of people have been killed in target killings while extortion amount has soared to an unprecedented peak.
