ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal has directed to complete land possession till December for Diamer Bhasha Dam.
The federal minister has ordered the authorities to complete all legal work within four months pertaining the land possession selected for Bhasha Dam in order to remove expectation of cost hike.
Ahsan Iqbal chaired meeting with the sub-committee officials appointed by National Economic Council for reviewing Public Sector Development Programme 2013-14.
The meeting was attended by Chief Ministers Khyber Pakhtunkhwa‚ Balochistan‚ Gilgit Baltistan‚ Prime Minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir and representatives of chief ministers of Punjab and Sindh.
It is pertinent to note, Diamer Bhasha Dam is one of the major future projects proposed by the experts to end power crisis as well as irrigating thousands of acres of land to grow crop production.
Facing worst power crisis in the country, Pakistan set to work upon 4,500 Mega Watt electricity capacity dam to end power crisis on permanent basis.
Ministry of Water and Power viewed that Diamer Bhasha Dam has the capacity to produce electricity up to 4500 MW and it will end the load shedding from the country.
Besides, it will also ensure food and water security in the country, a spokesman of the ministry said.
Related departments also got direction from the minister to Lowari Tunnel in minimum possible time.
Iqbal ordered Water and Power Development Authority WAPDA’s chairman to design policy on river projects in order to run it by private sector for increasing hydroelectric potential of Azad Kashmir and Gilgit Baltistan.
He also ordered to prioritise the projects which link Gwadar port to rest of the country.
