ISLAMABAD: Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) has planned expanding its current enrollment of 1.3 million students to three million students by introducing eight new schemes.
The figure would be more than double in next three years at the university, said Vice Chancellor Dr. Nazir Ahmed Sangi.
In an interview, he revealed that AIOU has increased 2,00,000 students in last three years.
“AIOU has the capacity to assist five to seven public universities and it has planning a pilot project under which schools upgradation in every Tehsil would be done besides teachers training, teachers provision and curriculum development.”
AIOU is distance learning university which offers a wide range of certificate, diploma and degree programs in arts and science faculties.
Dr. Nazir says AIOU has the mandate of distance learning as well as literacy, computer and technical education.
“We have introduced eight associate degree programs as per quality level of Higher Education Commission,” he further said.
