ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI) candidate and prominent leader Asad Umar has got strong opponent belonging to Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) in upcoming by-election on NA-48 constituency of Islamabad.
PTI candidate likely to face tough fight in the polling event as Election Commission of Pakistan ECP allowed PML-N’s Anjum Aqeel Khan for contesting on same constituency.
Moreover, PTI candidate is supported by supported by the Jamaat-e-Islami who withdrew their candidate in his support.
Earlier, the ECP had summoned all 22 candidates contesting the federal capital’s NA-48 constituency regarding the hearing of the PML-N candidate’s case.
It is pertinent to note, PML-N Anjum Aqeel Khan is holding a powerful political background on the same constituency as he was elected as Member National Assembly (MNA) from NA-48 in 2008 during Pakistan People’s Party tenure.
Khan finished finished second to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) Javed Hashmi by a 21,000 vote margin. Hashmi later vacated the seat in favour of his home constituency in Multan.
On the other hand, the constituency seemed unlucky in favour of Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI) when Javed Hashmi vacated it by gripping hometown seat from Multan.
Former PTI candidate Ayla Malik got ineligibility orders by Election tribunal bench of Lahore High Court in Rawalpindi due to fake intermediate degree.
