KARACHI: Criminal activities in Pakistan’s largest city of Karachi have been increased as Eid-ul-Fitr, the religious festival, gets closer.
According to The News Tribe Urdu, the crime rate in city has also been increased with the end of first 10 days of Ramadan and people moving in the markets and posh areas are the main and easy target of the snatchers.
Authorities have made a special security plan like other big cities of the country for the holy month of Ramadan but the police and other law enforcement agencies look inactive and fail in controlling the situation.
Fahad, who born in UAE and came back to Pakistan two years ago, has recently became a target of criminals near Sindh Governor House and Chief Minister House, the red zone area, in a broad day light.
While talking to The News Tribe correspondent, Fahad said that armed bike riders stopped his car at Metropole area and took his iPhone, tablet PC, cash and the keys of his car away. “They dropped the keys few meters away my car and fled away the scene.”
The worst thing in the city is that people do not feel police as their helpers and avoid complaining to them because they feel they could be dragged into other problems after filing complains.
Fahad also did the same after his family and friends advised him to not submit any complain to police regarding the incident.
A senior police official said that number of officers and policemen are deployed on VVIP duties therefore it is ‘technically difficult’ for them to control the situation. The officer spoke to this correspondent on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to media.
Malik Ahsan Umer, an owner of a business firm in Defence, said that police mobiles could be seen at entrance and exit points of different areas but they are busy in collecting “Edhi” instead of saving people from criminals.
Another woman who is associated with a multinational firm said that he had become a victim of snatching incident on eighth Ramadan when she was going to Tariq Road for Eid shopping with her family.
Meanwhile, the incidents of extortions are also a major problem for the business men in the city. Many business men had been moved to other cities like Lahore after the increase of extortion incidents.
