LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has said that cooperation of Chinese authorities and investors for overcoming energy crisis in Pakistan will further strengthen diplomatic relations between the two countries.
This was stated by him during meetings with heads of various government and semi-government institutions in Beijing today.
The Chief Minister said that there is a vast scope of generation of electricity from coal, solar energy and hydle power in Pakistan and it is hoped that China will cooperate with Pakistan in benefiting from these resources.
He said that all out facilities and protection will be extended to investors in energy sector in Punjab and land will also be provided to them on soft term basis for installation of solar system while all out cooperation will be provided for minimizing the cost of production of electricity.
Shahbaz Sharif said that the purpose of the visit of Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif to China is to seek its cooperation in increasing energy production. He said that China is a trusted friend of Pakistan and it is hoped that it will not leave Pakistan alone in the existing situation.
He said that Pakistan does not want aid but friendly cooperation and technical guidance from China. He said that Pakistanis are a talented nation and he is sure that the country can make rapid progress like China under the dynamic and sagacious leadership of Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif.
The Chief Minister invited the heads of Chinese companies producing electricity from solar power and coal as well as energy experts to visit Punjab and evolve power generation projects on emergent basis.
Meanwhile, a memorandum of understanding was signed between Punjab government and a public sector Chinese company, China Energy Engineering Company in Beijing. Provincial Energy Minister Sher Ali Khan signed the document on behalf of Punjab government. Under the agreement, the Chinese company will set up a medium range power generation project from coal.
Earlier, underground metro authorities gave a briefing on the transport system to Chief Minister Punjab Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif in Beijing. Chinese authorities and experts expressed their willingness to extend cooperation in operating the most modern transport system in the big cities of Punjab.
