ISLAMABAD: Suffering through a skyrocketing amount power load-shedding making people psycho, Pakistan has the potential to produce up to 65,000 MegaWatt hydropower and it produces only 7000 MW.
This eye opening stats should be a shock for the most of people who have been facing up to 15 hours of power outages. Even in rural areas the time of electricity is hardy around four hours.
“Vast opportunities exist for investment in energy sector in Pakistan,” Former member of Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) Tariq Sardar said.
WAPDA is the controlling authority of power related affairs in the country, a home to about 180 million people.
“Pakistan has the potential to produce up to 65‚000 megawatt hydropower while it produces only 7‚000 megawatts,” Tariq told official radio service, Pakistan Radio.
He viewed that the country could produce more than 10,000 times energy including wind, coal and solar than the actual required demand of power.
Red-tapism and coalesce of local and foreign power firms said to be a major reason for the lack of interest of officials in power generation.
Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz led government has been facing a tough time after taking charge of the country only a few weeks ago with pressure is mounting up on it to make some measures to provide relief to the people.
