London: Defending champion Australia on Monday will face Sri Lanka in do-or-die situation of International Cricket Council (ICC) Champions trophy played at the Oval.
Defending Champion is already at the bottom in points table while its opponent has scores in its bag with one victory over the host.
Aussies haven’t succeeded to register a single victory except a drawn match against New Zealand due to rain. On the other hand Sri Lanka who lost their first match against New Zealand defending low total of 139 runs managed to chase down a massive total of 293 against the home side England.
Now both teams facing the knockout situation playing the last group stage match. Australia needs to beat Sri Lanka with a big margin to book the sport in semi-final. On the other hand Sri Lanka have to defeat the Aussies to join England, South Africa and India in the semi-final. In case of draw, New Zealand will go through to semi-final because of better run rate in ICC Champions trophy.
According to the One Day International (ODI) statistics, Aussies have an edge with 55 victories in 89 meetings while Sri Lanka manages to defeat Australia 30 times.
As far as their meeting at ICC Champions trophy is concerned, Sri Lanka have beaten the Aussies in their only meeting at this stage.
This match will decide the only vacant spot of semi-final. We are hoping to see tough competition between the two cricket nations.
