LONDON: Customize your ride, infiltrate criminal gangs and undertake races, missions and challenges in single, mulitplayer and co-op modes in this persistent online world title that could redefine the driving game.
Ubisoft claims the game — co developed by its Ubisoft Reflections and Ivory Tower studios — will revolutionize the driving game genre, as it has been built from the ground up to support multiplayer gaming and to offer a “persistent online world” experience — one of the standout trends of this year’s E3 conference — despite not being a MMO title.
As a result the action, set across instantly recognizable US cities where players must infiltrate criminal organizations, is not confined to major metropolitan routes — players can go off-road, raise hell in the suburbs or hit country roads.
But as a Lamborghini Aventador is at a distinct disadvantage to a Dodge Ram when the terrain gets tough, players can customize every single element of their car, from engine capacity to ride height, suspension and rims, to perfectly suit the conditions of each challenge, race or mission. What’s more, because this is a persistent online world, gamers can move seamlessly between single, multiplayer and co-op at any point and at any time in any game, and any other car is a potential real rival or ally.
As creative director Julian Gerighty explained when the game was demoed at E3: “We want to give players a driving experience that goes way beyond the classic circuit-based racing games and really captures the boundless sense of freedom of driving across the U.S. Our teams are harnessing the power of next-generation platforms to make The Crew a challenging, immersive and non-stop world that can be shared by millions of players. This is a brand new driving game experience unlike anything that’s come before it.”
Due to launch in early 2014 on the Xbox One, PS4 and PC, the game will also come with a companion second-screen app for iOS and Android devices.
