A rumor is circulating that the photo-editing and sharing application Instagram, which currently exists across Android and iOS, is coming to Windows mobile OS on June 26.
Chinese tech blog WPDang claimed on June 6 that Instagram will arrive on WP8 on June 26, but will only be available on Nokia phones such as the Lumia 928, however, the report also suggests that the popular app could even have a photo filter exclusive to Microsoft’s Windows OS.
This latest leak from WPDang, which is considered reputable and earlier in June was the source of the leak of previously unseen images of the Nokia EOS handset, comes on top of previous Instagram /WP8 rumors.
Back in early March tech sites including The Verge reported on a promotional video Nokia ran for the Lumia 920 which appeared to show an app icon for Instagram on the WP8 device, though there was some debate of whether it was in fact an Instagram icon or an icon of popular video streaming site Vimeo. The Verge later updated the report claiming that Instagram was coming to WP8, then again claimed that Instagram was not “investing its own resources into the development of a potential Instagram app,” citing “sources familiar with the situation.”
However it has also been suggested that Nokia itself has been hinting at the arrival of Instagram on its WP8 devices: March Nokia seemed to confirm that the app was under development in a Twitter reply to a customer in Swedish from @NokiaSverige then in April, again from Nokia’s Swedish account, but this time on Facebook when a customer asked if Instagram was coming to the Lumia 928.
