LONDON: British supercar company and Formula One racing team is building 50 limited edition hard-top 12C roadsters and 50 equally rare 12C Spider convertibles to mark its 50th year in business, an anniversary it celebrates in September.
The special versions will feature redesigned front bumpers and chin spoiler set-ups for increased downforce, carbon ceramic brakes, on-board computational tweaks and specially designed black satin wheels that reduce each car’s overall weight by 2kg.
Inside, the cabin gets a full leather finish and specially engraved plates noting the vehicle number and marking the carmaker’s anniversary.
The special, bespoke elements, are being undertaken by McLaren’s Special Operations Unit, which is normally tasked with creating one-off or heavily customized and tailored vehicles for the company’s most discerning clients.
Available in one of three color finishes –- Carbon Black, Supernova Silver or heritage McLaren Orange, each of the cars will also feature special McLaren heritage badges, rather than the standard 12C badges, further denoting the exclusivity of the vehicle in question.
Each of the McLaren 50 models will also come with a monogrammed black and silver car cover, limited edition key, carbon fibre presentation key box plus a specially commissioned print signed by McLaren Automotive Design Director, Frank Stephenson.
A maximum of 50 examples will be built of both cars with a recommended retail price of £196,000 ($300,000) for the McLaren 50 12C and £215,500 ($325,000) for the McLaren 50 12C Spider.
