GUJRAT: At least 17 burned to death including children and a teacher while other 10 severely injured on Saturday by a gas cylinder blast inside a school van in Gujrat city situated in the Punjab province of Pakistan.
The deadly incident took place on Saturday morning in the Kot Fateh area when a school bus moving towards school with at least 25 to 30 children on board.
According to police, the van immediately caught fire due to inflammable gas after the gas cylinder exploded while the van driver escaped from the location.
While talking with media correspondent, some students from the burnt van told that they warned the van driver about the gas and petrol leakage inside the van but he did not listened.
Rescue team reached the affected site, shifted the dead bodies and injured to the nearby hospital while fire fighting team controlled the fire of burning bus.
Punjab police is investigating the incident from various aspect to lead exact reason.
Gujrat is about 200km (120 miles) south-east of the capital Islamabad.
Compressed natural gas (CNG) is used in millions of vehicles in Pakistan as a cheaper fuel as compare to diesel and petrol while several vehicles’ cylinder exploded due to substandard cylinders used to contain fuel.
