KHAR: Unknown miscreants opened fire on polio campaigners on Monday morning in Bajaur Agency, resulted killing of one Levies official deployed to protect the anti-polio team.
According to sources, unknown persons suddenly opened fire on anti-polio team busy in their campaign in Mamon area of Bajour agency in the north-western Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan.
The firing incident resulted the killing of a Levies official on the spot while the body was shifted to the local hospital immediately.
Heavy contingents of security forces reached the location and started search operation to find out of responsible.
It is pertinent to know that polio teams were faced several same genre of attacks previously in different areas of Pakistan.
On January 29, a policeman performing a security duty with anti-polio campaigners was gunned down in Swabi district of the province.
Pakistan is one of only three countries where polio remains endemic, along with Afghanistan and Nigeria, but efforts to tackle the highly infectious crippling disease have been hampered over the years by local suspicion.
