Islamabad: In a surprise yet haste bid to destabilize Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan, interim government has assigned National Health Services the task to verify degrees for election purposes.
HEC is the regulatory body of the country, with an education budget even lesser than 2 percent of total GDP, which controls affairs related to higher education institutes and universities.
HEC came into light a few months back after it had termed dozens of degrees of political leaders from various political parties as fake.
According to a notification issued from the interim government, from now onward National Health Services will verify degrees of politicians.
However, HEC officials have termed it as an illegal decision and refused to accept the orders. They further said that they have contacted interim prime minister Mir Hazar Khan Khauso over the issue.
But commentators are surprised over the decision which assigned health related professionals to look after affairs of education.
