ISLAMABAD: Senator Joe Donnelly (D-IN), Senator Chris Murphy (D-CT), Senator Heidi Heitkamp (D-ND), Senator Tammy Baldwin (D-WI), and Congressman Peter Welch (D-VT), visited Pakistan April 29 – May 1 as part of a U.S. Congressional delegation.
During their visit, the delegation met with Foreign Secretary Jalil Abbas Jilani, Chief of Army Staff General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani, Secretary of Defense Lt. Gen. (retd.) Asif Yaseen Malik, Ishtiak Ahmad Khan, Secretary, Election Commission of Pakistan, and representatives of civil society.
While in Pakistan, the Senators and Congressman noted that the upcoming May 11 general elections will mark a historic democratic transition, and reaffirmed the commitment of the United States to build a bilateral partnership with the government elected by the voters.
