LAHORE: Master Paints Industries, one of the leading paint companies of Pakistan has initiated Master CARES Project. Beginning its first activity at Shaukat Khanum Memorial Hospital, students from National College of Arts have volunteered to support this activity.
With an aim to implement Master CARES Project at various hospitals, the artists on behalf of Master Paints will paint the children ward(s) and draw murals to uplift the ambiance. Sufi M Amin, the director of Master Paints said, “Master CARES Project is a CSR activity in which we will take up five hospitals focusing mainly on the children wards or female wards. We have gathered volunteers from various institutes that will help us paint and draw murals in the chosen wards. We hope this activity will help elevate the spirits and uplift the mood of children.”
Artists, who have volunteered for this activity, have carefully chosen characters and colors that will positively affect the mood of the patients. “Since Cancer is a painful experience we have chosen particular themes to provide comfort to the children. For instance, we have various game characters for the children library.
We have ‘Glow in the dark’ theme for children for the radiation room. From floor to ceiling we have the theme of Madagascar. The floor is painted with stepping stones for the children find it easy to walk up to the machine. The reason for choosing ‘Glow in the dark’ is to make the process less stressful for the children. Similarly, we have Ice Age for the injection room. We are hopeful this will create a comforting and cheerful environment for the children,” said Lalarukh Cheema a volunteer from NCA.
The paint used at the hospital is an environment –friendly and led-free. The company has developed anti-bacterial paint especially for the hospitals that is also low VOC. Dr Humayun Bashir Consultant Nuclear Physician at Shaukat Khanum said, “The colors and murals chosen will help us to create friendly environment for the children. In some cases, even sedation does not help. Having colorful walls will help the patient relax and it will make the job easier for us. It will help us to calm them and carry on the process successfully.”
Amjad Rasheed, Assistant Manager of the department further added, “We studied the behavior of the children. Along with the Play Therapist, senior doctors and Master Paints, we came up with colors that are cheerful, fresh and calming to create home-like environment.”
Master CARES Project is a CSR activity of Master Paints that will be carried on every six months. The company has already signed an agreement with five other hospitals where it will repaint the wards. A group of consultants, who have volunteered to support the project, will serve as advisors to choose colors and different themes for the hospitals.
