KARACHI: The leaders of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) and Awami National Party (ANP) have strongly condemned the attacks on their election offices and said that they would not surrender to ‘religious extremist’.
The three parties, being attacked by the Taliban, held joint press conference at Karachi Press Club on Monday in which MQM’s Haider Abbas Rizvi, Raza Haroon, PPPs Taj Haider, Waqar Mehdi, ANP’s Bashir Jan and others leaders participated.
Several supporters and activists of the three parties were killed and dozens other injured when unidentified men targeted their election offices in Karachi city with bombs.
The Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) has claimed responsibility of the attacks on these parties. Ehsanullah Ehsan, the TTP spokesman, said on Sunday that they would not target right wing parties including the Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N), Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Fazl (JUI-F).
While addressing a press conference, the leaders of the three parties said that they would not surrender to the religious extremist and would participate in the election.
“If we can fight against Zia…we can fight against the remains of Zia,” Taj Haider said and added that no action was being taken against the terrorists.
He said that they were being stopped from running their polling campaigns by terrorism.
MQM’s Haider Abbas Rizvi alleged the establishment of supporting the right wing parties and said it should not take decision in urgency.
