ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has issued new directions to candidates and political parties for their candidatures.
In the new directions, the ECP on Sunday said that the candidates would not be allowed to run their candidatures on sectarian or religious basis. “Provision of free transport, including boats and vehicle, to voters will be a crime,” the commission said.
Furthermore, the ECP said that it would also be a crime to repel any voter from polling station.
Pakistan is all set to hold it general election on May 11 and it will be a first democratic transition of government in the history of the country.
“The political parties will also not be allowed the set up their camps within 400 metres of the polling station.”
In the country where sectarian killings are at their peak, several sectarian political parties have also announced to take part in the election.
Around 200 Shiites were killed and dozens other injured in two bombing incidents earlier this year in the country’s western city of Quetta, bordering Afghanistan.
While several Sunni Ulemas were also gunned down by unknown men in Karachi, the financial hub of the country facing high number of targeted killing incidents on daily basis.
