PARIS: Visitors to the Eiffel Tower have been evacuated from Paris’s iconic monument, following an anonymous phone call announcing an attack Saturday night, a police source told AFP.
About 1,400 people were evacuated and a security perimeter has been set up around the monument, the source said.
The call came from the Paris suburbs and threatened an attack at 9:30 pm (2030 GMT). The anti-terrorism unit is investigating.
Bomb alerts targeting monuments and public places happen frequently in the French capital, but all alerts are “treated very seriously,” the police source said.
Special police units are currently inspecting the monuments.
