Karachi: After Supreme Court of Pakistan’s direction to appoint a new Inspector General of Police in Sindh during a hearing of law and order case of Karachi, Shahid Nadeem Baloch has been appointed as the new IG of the province.
It is to be mentioned here that Shahid’s predecessor, Fayyaz Leghari was removed from his post after the apex court said that the incumbent police chief of the province had failed to over the situation of lawlessness in the city.
Shahid Baloch was earlier posted in Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) as the director of cyber crime wing.
Meanwhile, soon after his appointment, the police raided several parts of Lyari, an area of Karachi which has become a safe heaven for criminals, and arrested almost 30 suspicious people.
The police raided Gul Mohammad Lane, Musa Lane, Nayabad, Lee Market and other parts of the area. It is to be mentioned here that SC had directed police officials to end no go areas in the vicinity of Lyari, which police had claimed that the law enforcement authorities had no access to the area due to the presence of criminals.
Meanwhile, sources said that the police is preparing to launch an operation in the area adding that Rangers had distanced itself from the ongoing operation.
