Peshawar: A writ petition was filed in the Peshawar High Court (PHC), challenging the notification of appointment of Justice (retd) Tariq Pervez as caretaker chief minister of Khyber Pakhtonkhwa.
The petitioner citing Article 207 of the Constitution has said that Pervez could not hold the public office for two years after his retirement.
The PHC would hear the petition at 5pm today (Wednesday).
It is pertinent to mention here that Justice (retd) Tariq Pervez would also take oath as the caretaker CM of the KPK at 5pm.
Pervez — who had served as the caretaker governor of the KPK when he was the chief justice of the Peshawar High Court (PHC) — was born in Peshawar on Feb 15, 1948 had also served as president of PHC Bar Association in 1996.
He was appointed as chief justice of the PHC on April 5, 2005, and elevated to the Supreme Court in Oct 2009. He retired from that post on Feb 14 this year.
