Sanaa: At least 12 members of pro-government militia were killed after a suicide bomber hit the militia headquarters in Lawder, a town in the southern province of Abyan.
It is to be mentioned here that the militias had helped the Yemeni army to drive al Qaeda-linked Islamist militants out of southern strongholds in a U.S.-backed campaign last year.
According to reports, 15 other people had been wounded in the attack on an office of the Popular Committees in the town of Lawdar.
Residents said the force of the blast shook the center of Lawdar. No one claimed responsibility for the attack, but Islamist group Ansar al-Sharia has previously said it carried out similar bombings, often in reprisal for the tribal fighters’ role in driving the militants out of their strongholds.
