Baghdad: At least four people including a senior Iraqi Intelligence officer was killed in a suicide blast in Mosul, a city in Northern Iraq, here on Saturday.
According to police, the attacker is believed to have detonated his explosives belt near the officer’s home.
The bombing is the latest in a series of deadly attacks in Iraqi cities that have left scores of people dead since the beginning of the year.
No one has claimed responsibility for the attack but local security officials blame Al-Qaeda’s front group in Iraq, which often targets security forces and officials in a bid to destabilise the country and push it back towards the sectarian bloodshed of 2005 to 2008.
The violence comes as Iraq grapples with a long-running political dispute, with Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki facing several protests in hardening opposition against his rule and calls from many of his erstwhile government partners for his ouster.
