Islamabad: Federal government of Pakistan on Wednesday decided to maintain ban on the YouTube in the country as the administration of the video sharing website is not cooperating in blocking the blasphemous content.
Pakistan has blocked the website after an anti-Muslim film, Innocence of Muslims, mocking Prophet (PBUH) sparked anger among the Muslims demanding ban on the website.
The decision was made in a meeting of National Assembly’s committee on Information Technology citing the reasons that the government was not able to block the blasphemous content due to the non-cooperation of YouTube administration.
The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) officials present on the occasion said that the YouTube officials would visit Pakistan this month and will hear the grievances of the government.
A report was also tabled in the meeting stating that the PTA had blocked almost 82000 blasphemous content websites and 500 anti-state websites.
