Islamabad: At least one army soldier would be deployed at every polling station in Karachi in the upcoming general election, Secretary Election Commission of Pakistan Ishtiaq Ahmed Khan said.
The ECP took the decision during a meeting with the representatives of various political parties on Thursday.
Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Fakhruddin G Ebrahim reiterated that elections would be held on time. He assured the representatives that the commission would address all concerns regarding the elections in Karachi before the polls.
Liaquat Baloch of the Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) expressed dissatisfaction over the ongoing verification process of Karachi’s voters list, arguing that the ECP was not utilising the army as ordered by the Supreme Court of Pakistan.
