BOSTON, Massachusetts: Researchers from Brigham and Women’s Hospital (BWH), the largest hospital of the Longwood Medical and Academic Area in Boston claimed that meal on time is the major key to lose weight and to prevent from the risks of diabetes.
After studying various cases of overweight people, the researchers found that rate of weight-loss is better in early meal takers as compare to late eaters as well as late eaters have higher risks of diabetes due to lower insulin sensitivity.
They observed that early eaters took meal before 3pm while the late eaters took it after 3pm.
The research carried out by studying almost 420 cases of overweight people, who joined the treatment programme of 20-week for weight-loss in Spain, by the team of BWH and the University of Murcia.
According to the senior author Dr Frank Scheer from BWH, it is the first large-scale prospective study to demonstrate that the timing of meals predicts weight-loss effectiveness.
Meanwhile, the co-author Dr Marta Garaulet from the University of Murcia said: ‘This study emphasises that the timing of food intake itself may play a significant role in weight regulation.
The research article was published in the International Journal of Obesity.
