Lahore: Minhaj-ul-Quran International chief Tahir-ul-Qadri has said he and his family are not going to take part in the upcoming general election in Pakistan.
The Canadian-Pakistani cleric announced the decision in a press conference in the capital city of Pakistan’s Punjab province.
He said his two sons, his sons-in-law, daughters-in-law, and his whole family will not contest the upcoming elections.
The cleric said his political party, the Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PTA), is free to concentrate on its political career.
The religious scholar jumped into the country’s politics after almost seven years, demanding the current government to make reforms in the electoral system.
He further led a long march towards the country’s capital Islamabad, and later on struck a deal with the government on political reforms to end his sit-in in front of the parliament.
