Islamabad: The Supreme Court of Pakistan on Thursday accepted a ‘blasphemy’ plea against Sherry Rehman — the country’s envoy to United States — for hearing.
A two-member bench of the apex court comprising Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali and Justice Ijaz Afzal heard the plea filed by Fahim Anwar Gul.
During the hearing, the court ordered Multan’s city police officer to initiate legal action in the case.
Fahim, whose plea was earlier rejected by the session and the high courts, has pleaded the apex court that Sherry Rehman had used ‘blasphemous words’ during a private television’s programme titled “Dunya Mery Aagy” on November 30, 2010.
He requested the court to take the matter serious and order action against the envoy.
