Nintendo has announced on Wednesday Pokémon X and Pokémon Y, set to release in October 2013 worldwide, for Nintendo 3DS.
The new game will feature a fresh 3-D art style, a first for a “main series” Pokémon game entry.
In a broadcast message on Nintendo’s official website, president Satoru Iwata revisited the history of the series, which began in 1996 with the Japanese releases of Pokémon Red and Pokémon Green, Wired.com reported.
Iwata also showed off three new starter Pokémon and a few other rare Pokémon that will make their debut in the upcoming game.
The previous editions, Pokémon Black 2 and Pokémon White 2, were released for the DS just last October.
The Pokémon, considered to be one of the best-selling videogame franchises ever, has sold over 200 million copies total.
