Islamabad: The Election Commission of Pakistan has said that it will implement the decision of Supreme Court of Pakistan to delimit constituencies in Karachi, and sought details from political parties within one week to further the process.
The ECP issued the statement which was agreed upon by all political parties except MQM in an important meeting held at the federal capital on Thursday. The commission sought maps and documents to further the process in Karachi.
On the occasion, MQM held the stance that the proposed move cannot be made until a fresh population census in the city. It termed delimitation a ‘rigging ahead of elections’. “Launching the drive in just one city of the country would be an injustice,” it said.
Meanwhile, PPP, through its prominent activist Taj Haider, supported MQM’s stance on the subject. It feared that the move can cause ‘unrest’ in the city.
