Kandahar: An American commando while two Afghan government officials including an Afghan provincial police chief and an official in charge of women’s affairs were laid to death in separate attacks on Monday.
A US Special Forces commando was killed by Afghan Taliban during a mission in Afghanistan that rescued a kidnapped American doctor.
Meanwhile, Afghan Taliban claiming the responsibility behind the killing of police chief, Gen. Mohammad Musa Rasouli, said the insurgency had been tracking Rasouli and had purposely targeted him.
“We are continuing to target government officials,” Taliban spokesman Qari Yousef Ahmadi said.
The incident took place on Monday morning when Nimroz province police chief was travelling home from neighboring Herat province and his vehicle was struck by a roadside bomb, said the chief’s secretary Obaidullah.
Rasouli got severe wounds and was rushed to hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
In another incident on Monday, the head of the women’s affairs department for the eastern Laghman province was gunned down my unidentified armed men
Nadia Sediqi, a female government official was on her way to the office from her home on the outskirts of the provincial capital when she was attacked.
No one has claimed the responsibility for Sediqi’s death till yet.
