Peshawar: The Friends GroupĀ has swept the Peshawar University Teachers Association (PUTA) elections 2012-13 as Jameel Ahmed has been elected as president for second time.
According to sources, the United Teachers Group, backed up by Tanzeem Asatza, Progressive andĀ Azad Group, could not garner support from the academics to win important slots.
Sources further revealed thatĀ the united front had generated furor in the elections by issuing anonymous white paper against the Friends.
The results have shown that the Friends has not only comprehensively won the elections but also muster enough support to take the eleven slots out of thirteen.
This is the fourth consecutive win by the Friends in the elections. This year win will culminate in an important milestone as young academics will replace retiring nationalistās professors in a year or so.
The highlight of the score available to The News Tribe shows that none of the united front member was able to attain 300 votes while five out of nine fielded candidates by the Friends have achieved 300 plus votes.
The challenges of the cabinet would be to rally financial support and discipline at the university.
Jameel Ahmad, the newly elected president,Ā in his yesterdayās speech has promised to bring 235 new faculty positions and facilitiesĀ to already financial- battered university.
