Lahore: Annual three-day birth anniversary celebrations of Baba Guru Nanak Dev commenced in Gurudwara at Nankana Sahib on Monday.
Around five thousand Sikh pilgrims from across the world made their way to Nankana Sahib to attend the 544th annual celebrations, sources said.
Meanwhile, district administration has also announced a three-day local holiday for educational institutions in the district.
The administration said about three thousand pilgrims came from India via two special trains from Wahga border while as many as 1,300 pilgrims including Sikhs and Hindus came from different parts of the country.
Tight security measures have been taken by the local police in order to avert any mishap, a senior police officer stated while talking to local media.
He anticipated that the supporter of Ajmal Kasab may resort to violence during the event in a bid to harm particularly the Indian nationals.
