Islamabad: Pakistan People’s Party has introduced a new amendment in the dual nationality bill, halting judges to hold dual nationality.
According to sources, the PPP led government failed to table the bill in the upper house of the parliament, Senate, on Wednesday due to the absence of some senators including Senator Faisal Raza Abidi, an open critic of Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry.
According to the 24 amendment introduced by PPP, the judges of lower and higher judiciary will not be able to hold dual nationality during their service.
The government also included 22nd and 23rd amendment which states government officials of above grade 20 will not hold the dual nationality and after declaring their dual nationality, the parliamentarians will have to leave it within 90 days respectively.
The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) led coalition would need 2/3 majority to amend the constitution.
It is to be mentioned here that several Pakistani lawmakers were facing suspension from their assembly seats over dual nationality issue.
