Islamabad: Interior Minister Rehman Malik on Friday urged the public to avoid riding motorbikes and use public transport till Ashura.
Speaking to media in Islamabad he informed to have received applications from 15 different cities of Punjab to block mobile services in these cities till Ashura. “Punjab government has also requested him to jam cellular networks in 14 critical cities of the province.”
Mobile services in Karachi, Hyderabad, Larkana, Khairpur and several other cities have already been barred while it will be blocked in Nowshehra, Charsadah, Qalat and kohlo from tomorrow. In Hangu and Kohat, it will get into affect by this evening.
Malik said that president Asif Ali Zardari has directed him to take impartial action against the law violators in order to restore peace in the country. “We want to tell the terrorists that we do not fear death.”
Interior Minister re-assured that all the law enforcement agencies are on stand-by and their assistance will be sought, if necessary.
He said that inquiry proceedings were underway to unearth the involvement of third party behind the violence in Karachi and other cities.
Rehman Malik asks apology from the public for blocking the mobile services, also giving a hint of the possibility of banning bike riding in different cities, urging the public not to ride on bike till Ashura.
