Islamabad: Prime Minister, Raja Pervez Ashraf has said that they are working towards boosting the trade target to the mark of 5 billion dollar between the Developing Eight (D8) Muslim countries which will bolster economic activities.
He expressed these views on the occasion of inauguration of the first ever trade exhibition of D8 countries featuring several stalls of products of the countries.
Sources said the conference, which will be graced by six head of the states who will reach Pakistan by November 21, will also come up with “D8 Charter”, the first such charter in 15 years.
Ashraf said that the event also translates government’s efforts to establish peace in the region. He reiterated that Pakistan will make all-out effort to boost trade ties with the brotherly countries.
On the occasion, a commemoration shield was also presented to Raja Pervez Ashraf which accidentally got broken by one of the officials there.
D8 are a group of developing countries with large Muslim populations that have formed an economic development alliance. It consists of Bangladesh, Egypt, Indonesia, Iran, Malaysia, Nigeria, Pakistan, and Turkey.
The objectives of D-8 are to improve member states’ position in the global economy, diversify and create new opportunities in trade relations, enhance participation in decision-making at international level and improve standards of living.
