Islamabad: The 15th meeting of the Pakistan Universities Sports Board was held at the Higher Education Commission (HEC) Islamabad.
The meeting was presided over by Chairperson HEC and Pakistan Universities Sports Board Dr. Javaid R. Laghari.
During the meeting, it was apprised that as an outcome of incentives and steps undertaken by the HECÂ for promotion of sport activities at university level, the university sportsmen have shown tremendous performance at national and international level. It was also informed that Pakistan University Sports Board is the largest sports setup in the county and is actively promoting sports activities as nursery of national players. During the last year, 54 intervarsity championships were held in nearly all the major sports of the country.
The meeting approved for inclusion of new sports of archery and Ju-jitsu in the intervarsity championships. The committee also approved the suggestion that all the important national and international games would be included as part of intervarsity games. The house decided that director sports of the universities may be sent abroad for training for broadening their vision and enhancing their capacity for better and effective administration of sport activities. Best Director Sport award would be introduced at the provincial and federal level to encourage the performance of sport officers. The meeting also approved the rules for seeding, draws and systems of tournaments for university sport events.
The committee also awarded HEC intervarsity all round trophy and cash prize for the session 2011-12 to University of Central Punjab Lahore, University of Lahore, Lahore and University of the Punjab Lahore in male events and University of the Punjab Lahore, Lahore College for Women University Lahore and Govt. College University Faisalabad in women events.
The Director sports Quaid-i-Azam University Islamabad also awarded special prize for organizing eight intervarsity sport events.
