Islamabad: While busy promoting services through ads on TV, the branchless banking services of Telenor and Tameer Microfinance Bank, Easypaisa, has gone completely off in multiple cities in the high demanding season of cash transactions before Eid-ul-Azha.
Service providers of the Easypaisa said that the network of the services has not been working for last three days in the major cities—Karachi, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Peshawar and Quetta and etc, and hundreds of customers failed to avail facility in the dire need of money transfer.
Whenever the money transfer request is sent to Easypaisa network, it responds with a message “The system is currently busy processing other customers.”
President Islamabad Mobile Retailers Association Shaadaat Hussain said that services of Easypaisa often goes down on high demand period particularly on two Eids.
He added that scores of customers who are in need to transfer cash to their relatives or business partners got disappointed by the services as they failed to utilize the benefit of rapid money transfer facility.
There are 20,000 number of agents working in 750 different locations across the country. Easypaisa, the pioneer branchless banking service hit snags and disappointed its customers, transferred Rs 178 billion rupees against 83 million transactions in last three years.
Telenor official said that Eid is high traffic occasion where lots of people utilize the services of branchless banking out of routine, hence, the capacity of network becomes less to proceed large number of transactions mainly in big cities.
The network could not be upgraded merely for two occasions throughout however investment will be made gradually in the future to resolve the issue, he said on the condition of anonymity.
