Baghdad: Three people were killed and 12 others injured after bombings and shooting by unknown gunmen on Wednesday.
The dead also included a senior transport ministry official. Three of the gunmen were later killed by security forces.
“A high-ranking official in the transport ministry was assassinated by unknown gunmen armed with silenced weapons” in the west of the capital, AFP quoted Operations Command spokesman Colonel Dhia al-Wakil as saying.
Two more people were killed, including a soldier, were in the north and south of Baghdad.
In North, a roadside bomb targeting a patrol killed one soldier and wounded two more near the city of Baquba, an army lieutenant colonel and a medical source said, according to the news agency.
In South, one person was killed and three wounded when a roadside bomb targeted a tribal leader’s vehicle in the town of Suwayrah, a security official said.
And near the northern oil city of Kirkuk, a car bomb wounded seven people, among them three police and a soldier.
