London: Salma Yaqoob, Respect Party leader, has resigned from the party after “breakdown in trust” at senior levels, saying the last few weeks had been quite stressful for her and the party.
Ms Yaqoob criticised the recent comments by Respect MP George Galloway about rape and the case of Julian Assange, founder of WikiLeaks.
She said her decision had been taken with “deep regret” but “collaborative working” had ceased, BBC reported.
Galloway commented last month that there was no need of consent each time before sex and criticised the legal case against Assange, who is wanted in Sweden on the charges of sexually assaulting two women.
