Islamabad: A high-level UN delegation in connection with missing persons issue arrived in Pakistan on Sunday.
Sources said that the four-member high-level delegation of experts will launch 10-day official mission on enforced disappearances, adding that the delegation will also visit all the provinces to meet the families of the missing persons besides meeting with top Pakistani officials.
This is the third visit of the UN human rights experts in less than four months.
Earlier on May 19th, the UN Special Rapporteur on the Independence of Judges and Lawyers Gabriela Knaul had arrived here on a 10-day fact finding mission. Her visit was followed by the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Navi Pillay who landed in Islamabad on June 4th on a four-day visit.
The sources said that the Working Group experts would hold background meetings with Pakistan’s military leadership including the spymasters at the military intelligence agencies to get the necessary information regarding missing persons in the backdrop of the alleged involvement of these institutions in the enforced disappearances of the civilians.
