New Delhi: Former Gujarat minister and BJP MLA Maya Kodnani was on Friday awarded 28-year rigorous imprisonment for her role in the 2002 Naroda Patiya riot case, while former Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) leader Babu Bajrangi was sentenced to imprisonment for life.
According to India Today, a special trial court in Ahmedabad sentenced 32 convicts for the massacre of 97 people belonging to minority community in Naroda Patiya village. While the minimum punishment for the convicts was 10-year imprisonment, nobody was awarded death sentence.
The court of additional principal judge Jyotsna Yagnik had on Wednesday convicted 32 people in one of the worst riots cases of Gujarat while acquitting 29 others.
