Islamabad: Amnesty International on Wednesday demanded Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf to resolve the matter of missing persons forever.
In a letter written to PM Ashraf on the International Day of the Victims of Enforced Disappearances, the Amnesty accused government for not taking the issue of missing persons seriously.
“Thousands of people are missing in the country,” the letter stated adding that an immense increase was reported in the numbers of missing persons from Sindh and Balochistan.
Amnesty International also said that most of the relatives of missing persons accused spy agencies for the forced disappearances.
It is to be mentioned here that hundreds of people were recovered after Supreme Court of Pakistan took suo moto on the issue.
Different NGO’s have raised the issue of missing persons but Amina Masood Janjua, Chairperson of Defence of Human Rights, was the most vibrant on the issue. She also hold a sit-in along with the relatives of missing persons in front of Pakistan’s Parliament House.
