Islamabad: The Supreme Court of Pakistan on Friday reserved its verdict on multiple petitions against new contempt of court law.
The five-member bench of the apex court headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry comprising Justice Shakirullah Jan, Justice Khilji Arif Hussain, Justice Jawwad S Khawaja and Justice Tassaduq Hussain Jillani reserved the verdicts after the Attorney General of Pakistan Irfan Qadir concluded his argument in the case.
During today’s proceeding, Justice Khilji Arif Hussain remarked that many words related to the contempt were not included in the new act. He said that the words like denigration, scandalized, contempt and judicial judge had not been written in the act.
Irfan Qadir, the Attorney General, who continued his argument, said that the few words were used as substitute while some gives same meaning in the act.
“Attorney General, you had said that every comma and full stop has meaning and every word has objective,” Justice Khilji observed.
The apex court will announce the judgment at 3pm today (Friday).
