London: Chinese Wu Minxia and He Zi have won the first gold medal of the 2012 London Olympics women’s synchronised 3m springboard event, scoring 346.20 points on Saturday.
China is expected to repeat the last year’s history where they clinched all the eight events.
The United Sates and Italy claimed the silver and bronze, respectively.
Rebecca Gallantree and Alicia Blagg of Britain finished seventh of eight.
“We were really happy with the first two dives but then I missed my last dive and my third,” Daily Mail quoted Blagg as saying.
“It was my first Games, it was just an absolutely incredible experience. The whole crowd was incredible.
“Hopefully I’ve got many more Games in me to improve on this and the dives I’m not confident on.”
Canada’s Emile Heymans and Jennifer Abel finished with 316.8 points and the bronze after losing their composure on their second dive, a relatively simple forward pike.
