Most web users feel reluctant to share their personal data on Facebook, but many trust on Amazon and Google, a new poll says.
According to a Harris Interactive Inc. survey, around 30 percent of Internet users trust Facebook in handling their personal information, while 66 percent are comfortable with online retailer Amazon and 41 percent think it is safe share information with Google to show ads based on past Web searches.
Facebook agreed in November to settle complaints by the Federal Trade Commission that it failed to protect user information or disclose how the data would be used, Bloomberg reported.
As many as 2,262 US adults online were surveyed in the poll conducted by Harris on behalf of mobile marketing firm Placecast. They were asked which company they think was more reliable in using their data among the various companies and types of merchants, including grocery stores and mobile-phone carriers.
Grocery stores were the most trusted group among respondents as 81 percent expressed their trust in them.
