England: British doctors, apart from treatment, surgeries and therapies, may be lacking an understanding of the importance of exercise in cure of diseases, according to a report released by Royal College of physicians (RCP).
In an issued report, RCP stressed upon the increased need of medical engagement to advise appropriate exercises in treating injuries and illness. Exercise is an effective and inexpensive tool to fix problems with a low-profile side effects.
“Exercise is an effective and cheap prevention and treatment,” said Professor Mark Batt, president, of the faculty of sport and exercise medicine at the RCP. “Unlike many drugs there are few side effects and of course it can be good for the environment too.”
The Sport and Exercise Medicine Committee – a working party of the RCP, also mentioned that doctors were often reluctant to prescribe exercise largely due to lack of knowledge about the benefits that exercise holds or because of the fact that they misunderstood or overestimated the risks of exercising.
“Despite this, there remains reluctance among healthcare professionals, including doctors to ask about physical activity levels and use exercise as a treatment.” added Professor Mark Batt.
The Royal College of Physicians (RCP) issued a statement urging doctors in the country to leverage the London Olympic Games as an opportunity to get patients inspired about being more active.
Consideration of beginning a new physical activity such as exercise, stretch and yoga, it’s advisable to talk to your medical practitioner first. Whereas, a health and fitness expert or a gym instructor could also help you guide in choosing an exercise, especially when you are a patient of heart diseases, diabetes, asthma or arthritis.
