Islamabad: Difa-e-Pakistan Council (DPC) has announced to conclude its ‘long march’ after a sit-in at Parliament House, Islamabad. The leaders of the council announced to stage the next sit-in at Torkham border, a border between Pakistan and Afghanistan.
Thousands of Difa-e-Pakistan Council (DPC) activists converged on Islamabad on Monday after a “long march” to protest over the reopening of NATO supply routes to Afghanistan.
Around 15,000 protestors gathered outside the parliament to chant anti-US slogans and wave the banners of the Defence of Pakistan Council, a coalition of right wing and hardline groups, which organized the protest march from Lahore.
Islamabad agreed to reopen overland routes to NATO convoys last week after a seven-month blockade sparked by a botched US air raid on a border post that martyred 24 Pakistani soldiers.
Addressing to the gathering, the DPC leader Moulana Sami-ul-Haq announced that the council would stage its next sit-in at the Torkham border.
“The next sit-in will not be a peaceful one,” he said adding that government should revert its action of giving permission to the Nato supplies.
The participants of the rally dispersed soon after the leaders of the council announced to end the march.
