Sylvan Beach, New York: A pilot of a boat got distracted by fireworks on “guys’ day” and hit a buoy, killing himself, his father and his brother.
Carolyn Aceto says her husband and sons knew Oneida Lake “like the back of their hand” and had turned to look at fireworks when the accident happened Thursday night, AP reported.
Carolyn Aceto’s husband, 66-year-old Anthony Aceto, and two of her three children, 41-year-old Stephen Aceto of Tampa, Fla., and 33-year-old Timothy Aceto, were killed.
Anthony Aceto, 39, cracked his shoulder and ribs and was still hospitalized Saturday.
The men were on the lake partly to celebrate Stephen Aceto’s upcoming engagement to his girlfriend.
A salvage crew recovered the 20-foot open-bow powerboat Saturday.
